That, my friend, is crabgrass. This stuff is nasty! Now is the best time to do something about it because it seeds in the fall. I only know how to deal with crabgrass chemically, which you might want to avoid with the kids and if you have pets. Scotts makes a product called Ortho Weed-B-Gon Plus Crabgrass Control. Spray this on and you're good to go. If you have a huge yard with crabgrass all over you can just spot spray the bad area. The next thing to do would be to apply a pre-emergent fertilizer with crabgrass control next spring. These do a good job of preventing crabgrass seeds from taking root later in the summer. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of any natural ways to deal with crabgrass at this point. Let me do a little digging and I'll get back to you. Good luck, Carrie!
